One person. One daily prayer. One gospel worth sharing.

"What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it?" — Luke 15:4

Catch the Vision

Our compassionate God cares about the number one — the one lost sheep, the one lost coin, the one lost son. That's why we're encouraging everyone in our church to join God in going after the ones around us who are far from God.

What We're Doing — and Why It Matters

Who's Your One? is a simple strategy: if every follower of Jesus identified one person in his or her life who is far from God, committed to pray for that one daily, and looked for opportunities to share the hope of the gospel with that one — we could have a huge impact on our community and our area and multiply God's glory in the process.

Here at New Vision Fellowship, we exist to multiply God's glory on the earth. That means making disciples who become reflections of God — found, formed, fired, filled, and flowing His riches into the lives of others. Who's Your One? is a tool that helps us to pursue this vision. We want to partner with God in His mission to go after the ones around us who have gone astray.

In Luke 15, Jesus makes it clear: God celebrates when the one who was lost is found. He leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one.

"In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." — Luke 15:10

What We're Asking of You

Would you identify one person that you will commit to pray for as you seek opportunities to share the hope of the gospel with that one? The resources below will equip you for exactly that work.

Common Questions

Who's Your One? is a personal evangelism initiative challenging every follower of Christ to intentionally identify one person in his or her life who doesn't know Jesus, to pray for that one consistently, and to look for opportunities to share the gospel with that one. It's rooted in the truth that God cares deeply about the one — not just the masses.
New Vision Fellowship exists to multiply God's glory on the earth. Part of that means helping people be FOUND and invited to encouter God here — and FLOWING God's riches into the lives of others. Who's Your One? invites us to the space where these objectives meet. When we pray for and share with our one, we are joining God in His harvest and living out the Great Commission in our everyday relationships.
Your one is someone God has placed in your life who is either far from God or whose relationship with Christ you're unsure about. That could be a family member, a coworker, a neighbor, a friend, or someone you see regularly in your community. The OIKOS map in the next section will help you prayerfully identify who that person might be.
Not at all. This page is designed to equip you with simple, practical tools for praying for your one and sharing your faith naturally. You don't need special gifts or a seminary degree — you just need a willing heart and a story to tell. Every Christian is called to this mission of making disciples. We'll walk you through every step.
That's exactly where most of us start — and that's exactly why we pray! The "Praying for Your One" section below includes a prayer for boldness from Ephesians 6:19–20. God is faithful to answer that prayer. He'll open doors and give you words. We're just asking you to make yourself willing and available, then leave the rest to God.

"It does not matter how many buildings we construct, churches we plant, or sermons we preach if we're not intent on doing everything so that lost men, women, and children will experience the transforming work of God."

North American Mission Board

Our Vision - we desire that through this fellowship Christ would cause multitutes to be:

  • FOUND — invited to encounter God
  • FORMED — transformed by God's power
  • FIRED — made solid vessels for His use
  • FILLED — with truth and purpose for His glory
  • FLOWING — God's riches into the lives of others

Who's Your One? encourages us to live out the Found and Flowing portions of our vision through everyday relationships.

Identifying Your One

God has already given you a sphere of influence among people that you uniquely have the opportunity to reach. The question is: who is He asking you to focus on? An OIKOS map is a simple tool to help you prayerfully discover that one.

What Is an OIKOS Map?

The Greek word oikos refers to a person's household — their immediate sphere of relationship and influence. In Mark 5, after Jesus healed a man who had been tormented by demons, He gave him this instruction:

"Go home (oikos) to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you." — Mark 5:19

An OIKOS map is a hand-drawn picture of your people — those God has placed within your sphere of influence who may be far from Him or whose relationship with Christ you aren't certain about. It includes people from every dimension of your life:

  • 👫 Friends
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Family members
  • 👔 Coworkers or classmates
  • 🏘️⚽☕ Hobbies, Neighbors, Community

We want you to identify your people — especially those who God has placed within your reach who may either be far from God, or who you are not certain have a relationship with Christ.

"I am not asking on behalf of these alone, but also for those who believe in Me through their word." — John 17:20

Jesus prayed not only for His disciples — but for all those who would come to believe through their witness. When you share your faith with your one, that one may soon share with their one. We want to join Jesus in praying for a multiplying kingdom impact.

How to Create Your OIKOS Map

  1. Get a blank piece of paper. Write your name in the center circle. This is your OIKOS map — it starts with you.

  2. Draw out your relationships. Branch out from your name with the people in each area of life — family, work or school, neighbors, hobbies, and other regular connections.

  3. Mark those who are far from God. Place a mark next to those on your map who you know are not in a relationship with Christ, or whose spiritual life you're genuinely unsure about.

  4. Pray over your map. Ask the Lord to reveal to you which person He would have you turn your focus to first. Who is He stirring your heart toward?

  5. Identify your one. Commit that person's name to prayer. Keep your OIKOS map — others on it may become your next one in the future.

Remember

You are not just identifying a name. You are identifying someone that God loves — someone for whom Christ died. Your faithfulness in praying for and pursuing that one person could be the turning point of that person's eternity.

Praying for Your One

We must begin with prayer. Before you ever open your mouth to share the gospel, you should open your heart before God on behalf of your one. Here's how.

What to Pray for Yourself

As you prepare to reach your one, ask God to do His work in you. Use the acronym B.O.B. as a tool to pray for your own readiness:

B
Burden

Pray that God would give you a burden for your one — the kind of aching compassion Paul describes when he writes that he has "great sorrow and unceasing anguish" in his heart for those who don't know Christ.

Romans 9:1–3

O
Opportunities

Pray that God would open doors that would grant you opportunities to share the gospel — openings in conversations when you can share about the hope you've found in Jesus. He is the One who opens doors no one can shut.

Colossians 4:3–4

B
Boldness

Pray that God would give you the boldness to make the gospel known when the opportunities come. Even Paul (an apostle!) asked for this. Expressing your need for courage is not a sign of a weak fath. It's a sign of a dependent faith on a strength-giving God.

Ephesians 6:19–20

What to Pray for Your One

Pray that your one would come to know and respond to the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. Use the A.B.C. acronymn as a tool to help:

A
Admit

Pray that your one would admit he or she is a sinner in need of salvation — that the weight of "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" would land with conviction in your one's heart.

Romans 3:23 · Romans 6:23

B
Believe

Pray that your one would believe the gospel — that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son for him or her and that Christ died for your one's sins and was raised on the third day for your one's justification.

John 3:16 · 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

C
Confess

Pray that your one would confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior — that the good news would move from his or her head to the heart, and your one would call upon the name of the Lord to be saved.

Romans 10:9–10

When to Pray for Your One
"Seeing the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.'" — Matthew 9:36–38

Jesus didn't just see the crowds — He was moved with compassion. He felt the weight of their lostness. And His response was to call His disciples to pray. We are those disciples. And the harvest is still plentiful.

We encourage you to pray for your one daily. And here's a practical way to make that happen:

Set a Daily Reminder — Pray at 9:38

9:38 AM  ·  9:38 PM

In honor of Matthew 9:38, we encourage you to set a daily alarm on your phone for 9:38 AM, 9:38 PM — or - if you're an overachiever - both! When the alarm sounds, wherever you are, stop for a moment. Pray through the B.O.B. and A.B.C. prayers above on behalf of your one. Plead with the Lord of the harvest to send His work to that precious soul and to use you if He sees fit. Morning person? Go with AM. Night owl? PM all the way. The time doesn't matter, but your faithfulness to pray in obedience to Christ's command does.

Reaching Your One

Prayer prepares the ground. Now comes the faithful work of showing up — caring for your one, starting the conversation, and sharing the hope that is within you.

1 Care for Your One

Many times, love displayed can prepare receptive hearts for words that are spoken. Showing your one that you genuinely care might open a door for the gospel. Here are some simple ways to demonstrate that you care:

Take your one out for a cup of coffee or a meal.
Write a note of encouragement letting your one know he or she is prayed for by you and loved by Jesus.
Send a text asking how you can pray for him or her.
Drop off a gift card with a note explaining why you did it — because Jesus loves him or her and so do you.
Offer to pitch in with yard work, running errands, childcare, or whatever practical need your one might have.

2 Start the Conversation

You don't need to deliver a polished sermon. You just need a bridge — a simple question or comment that turns an ordinary conversation toward a topic of eternal importance. Try one of these:

Can I ask you a question that's really important to me? Has anyone ever told you that God loves you and sent His Son Jesus to die for you?
Do you have any spiritual beliefs?
How can I pray for you?
Do you believe in God? What do you believe about Him?
When is the last time someone told you that God loves you?
Did you grow up in church? What were you taught about God growing up? Do you still believe that?
Can I tell you about the best thing that ever happened to me?

3 Share Your Testimony

Your testimony is one of the most powerful tools you have. It's your personal story. It's true. Others can't argue with the reality of how God has met you. A good testimony answers three simple questions:

Life before Christ

What was your life like before you came to Christ? What were you living for? What was missing?

Coming to Christ

What led you to Christ? What happened? What was the moment — or season — that changed everything?

Life with Christ

What's different now that you know Christ? What has He changed, healed, freed, or given you?

"In a nutshell, a good testimony is your story wrapped around the gospel."

Sharing your testimony doesn't have to be complicated — in fact, you can do it in just 15 seconds. If your one is open to hearing more, you can always elaborate. But start there. And always close with the most important question:

"Do you have a story like that?"

4 Sharing the Gospel with 3 Circles

You don't need a textbook or a tract to be able to share the gospel. You just need a napkin and three circles. The 3 Circles method is a simple, visual way to present the gospel — anywhere, to anyone — in just a few minutes:

Circle 1 (God's Design): God created everything good and for His glory. Circle 2 (Brokenness): Sin entered the world and broke everything — our relationships, our purpose, and our connection with God. Circle 3 (Gospel): God sent Jesus to die and rise again — to rescue us from brokenness and provide the way by which we can be restored to His design.

5 Ask the All-Important Question

After sharing your testimony or presenting the gospel, the single most important thing you can do is also one of the most overlooked: actually ask. Too often we find our way into a gospel conversation and then let the opportunity pass. Don't miss the invitation.

The Question That Changes Everything

"Would you like to respond to the gospel?"

It's that simple. You don't have to manufacture emotion or pressure. Just open the door and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. Give your one the chance to say “yes”.

6 Leading Someone to Christ

The same A.B.C.s you've been praying over your one now become the template for leading your one to respond to Christ. Walk him or her through a prayer from an honest heart — one that Admits his or her sin, Believes the gospel, and Confesses Jesus as Lord and Savior.

There's no magic formula. The sincerity of the heart is what matters. Here is a sample prayer to give you an idea of what that might look like:

Sample Prayer

"Father, I know that my life is broken. And I recognize it's because of my sin — I need You. I believe Jesus came to be the Savior I need. I believe He lived, died, and was raised from the dead to rescue me from my sin. So I cry out and say, 'Save me, Lord Jesus.' Forgive me. I turn from my selfish ways, and I put my trust in You. I know that You are Lord of all, so I give my life to You to follow You. Amen.

When Someone Prays This Prayer…

Join the angels of heaven and celebrate! Affirm the decision this one has made. Welcome him or her to the family of believers — the church — and give thanks to God together for what He has just done in saving another one.

7 Beginning the Journey of Discipleship

Faith in Christ isn't the finish line — it's the starting line for everything God has in store. When your one comes to faith, help him or her take the first steps as a disciple.

📖 Read God's Word

Encourage your new brother or sister to begin reading Scripture daily. A great starting point is the Gospel of John — to discover more about this Savior they've found. Or point them to our Bible Reading Plans at nvf.life/plans.

🤝 Walk Through Discipleship

Set up a weekly check-in to talk through what it means to follow Jesus. The Commands of Christ at obeychrist.com is a helpful guide for understanding Christ's instructions for the disciple's life — including how to study the Scriptures and pray.

💧 Be Baptized

Encourage your new brother or sister to be baptized in obedience to Christ's command and as a public testimony of new life in Him. Point them to our Baptism page and connect your one with one of our pastors to learn more.

Laboring Together to Reach Our Ones

Evangelism is never a solo endeavor. We spur one another on. In our lobby, you'll find a display that allows our whole church family to celebrate together every step forward in reaching the lost.

Ping Pong Ball Color Guide — View on Canva ↗

White Ball

Pray

Write the name of your one on a white ping pong ball and drop it in the jar beneath the Who's Your One display. This ball represents your commitment to pray for that person daily — the first act of faith in reaching your one for Christ.

Green Ball

Share

When you have a gospel conversation with your one — or with anyone who is far from God — take a green ball, write their name on it, and drop it in the jar. Green means the seed has been planted. The gospel has been spoken.

Orange Ball

Bring

When someone who is unchurched accepts your invitation and attends church with you, drop an orange ball in the jar. Invitation accepted. They're here. That's a big deal — celebrate it!

Blue Ball

Celebrate

Drop a blue ball when someone you've shared the gospel with puts their faith in Christ — ideally following that decision in obedience through believer's baptism. This is what we've been praying and laboring for. Celebrate!
